Congress on Wednesday will announce its poll manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha election during a public rally at Badanawar in Madhya Pradesh. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi will be present at the rally.
In its attempt to woo the country’s youth ahead of the election, the party is likely to include “right to employment” as part of the poll promises besides mulling the stringent punishment of those responsible for paper leaks in the examination.
The draft manifesto was given a final shape on Tuesday which will be finalized soon, once the Congress Working Committee approves it.
A source from the party has said that this is the first time such a scheme giving the youth ‘right to employment’ is offered. The source also added that even developed countries do not offer such a scheme.
The party will also provide stringent laws and punishment against those responsible for paper leaks in the country and will suggest measures to bring transparency in government recruitment in its manifesto.
The document was drafted by panel chairman and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and All India Professional’s Congress chairman Parveen Chakravarty with inputs from all members. The committee also included senior leaders like Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Shashi Tharoor and Anand Sharma, among others.
This significant measure was taken after Rahul Gandhi during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ focused on the plight of lakhs of students suffering due to frequent paper leaks and cancellation of exams thereafter in some cases like in Uttar Pradesh.
The source has said that the thrust of the manifesto is likely to be on the 5-nyay (five pillars of justice) promised by the Congress during the party leader Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yathra’. The manifesto will also focus on giving legal guarantees to minimum support prices and promising a caste-based census in the country to fill up the government vacancies.
Manifesto panel member Imran Pratapgarhi said that they had taken views from all across the country and complied with them accordingly. “It combines everything, youth, women, unemployment, inflation, etc”, he said.
