Dr Sharmila Sarkar Won TMC Supremo Trust Despite Absence Of Political Experience

Bardhaman Purba Trinamool Congress candidate Dr Sharmila, who is a psychiatrist by profession, was seen serving tea during her election campaign. She has been nominated among the 42 candidates by the TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. This is the first election the newly nominated candidate who does not have any political experience in the past. The Trinamool candidate commented on not making any electoral promises which she cannot keep, however being a doctor, her priority will be the health sector for sure. She is focusing on winning people’s hearts by being into the masses.

The date of voting in the constituency is May 13, 2024. BJP has fielded Ashim Kumar Sarkar from Bardhaman Purba constituency.

Bardhaman Purba is a TMC stronghold as the party has seen its candidates being elected to all of the seven seats in 2021. Since 2014 Sunil Kumar Mandal has been the TMC MP from this constituency. However, the BJP registered a 25.39 percent uptick in votes in the last general elections in Bardhaman East. The total voter turnout in the last Lok Sabha election was 84.78 percent.

Bardhaman East is an SC category parliament seat with a literacy rate of 67.99 percent. Here the SC, Muslim, and ST population is 27.41%, 20.73%, and 6.3% respectively.
