J&K Assembly Polls: Congress Chief Announces Five Guarantees

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday announced five major guarantees for the people of Jammu and Kashmir if the Congress-National Conference (NC) came to power. While addressing an election rally in Anantnag, Congress president promised five lakh interest-free loan for women entrepreneurs and Rs 25 lakh health insurance per family.

Continuing further, Kharge said that government will give Rs 3,000 monthly to the women heads of families and the restoration of the provision to give 11 kg grains per person through the public distribution system.

Congress president has also promised the rehabilitation of Kashmir Pandit migrants. Other Backward Classes (OBCs) would receive their constitutional rights, he added.

Attacking BJP, Kharge said: “BJP gives a lot of speeches but there is a lot of difference between action and words…no matter how much BJP tries, Congress and NC’s alliance won’t weaken,” livemint quotes as Kharge is saying.

“They (BJP) said the same thing about creating 2 crore jobs annually across the country, but 10 years have passed, and those jobs haven’t materialised,” he added.

Kharge read out the promises in the presence of NC chief Farooq Abdullah and other senior Congress leaders. Congress released the third list of candidates late on Monday, September 9.

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases – September 18, September 25 and October 1. The results will be declared on October 8.
