Mizoram is eagerly waiting to know their leader. The tribal state went to poll on November 7th, and witnessed a keen competition between Mizo national Front (MNF), Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Congress and BJP tugging for power. The state have total of 40 legislative assembly seats. Current trend from Election Commission of India shows ZPM has secured 25 seats while MNF garnered 10 seats. 

Mizoram’s assembly election result was scheduled to be declared with all the other four states, on December 3rd. However, after receiving “several representations from various quarters” citing the December 3rd, Sunday holding special significance to the people of Mizoram, the Election Commission of India has decided to re-schedule the vote counting to be on December 4th.

Exit polls showed shows victory for regional parties, and the National parties like Congress and BJP is highly to be out of the door. Out of the 40 seats, 21 seats are needed to form a strong assembly. while MNF, ZPM and Congress have candidates in all 40 seats, BJP aimed for 23 constituencies.

5:00 pm, December 4, 2023: ZPM has won in Mizoram by winning 27 seats, MNF won 10 seats while BJP secured 2 and Congress won 1 seat.

4:30 pm, Decemeber 4, 2023: Outgoing Chief Minister of Mizoram, Zoramthanga said the fall of his party is due to the anti-incumbency and Covid onslaught.

 

 

2:00 pm, December 4, 2023: ZPM wins with 25 out 40 seats. MNF far behind with 7 seats. BJP has won 2 seats while Congress won 1 seats.

12:47 pm, December 4, 2023: Chief Minister Zoramthanga of MNF faces tough competition as he ZPM candidate Lalthansanga is leading with 2101 votes ahead of the current CM.

12:39 pm, December 4, 2023: The Zoram People”s Movement has won 13 seats while incumbent Mizo National Front has secured 2 seats and BJP 1.

12:33 PM, December 4, 2023: Lalduhoma of ZPM wins in Serchhip constituency with the lead of 2982 votes. Talking to ANI he siad, “swearing in will be within this month”.

 

12:09 pm, December 4, 2023: ZPM has won total 8 seats while BJP won 1 seat.

12:00 pm, December 4, 2023: ZPM Vice-President Dr. Kenneth Chawngliana says ZPM will form the government in Mizoram with absolute majority. He said, “as we are now leading on more than 20 seats, which is already the majority, I think we’ll form the government with the absolute majority”.

 

 

11:27 am, December 4, 2023: ZPM in Serchhip constituency started to celebrate after the party has reached a comfortable lead of 24 seats out of total 40 seats.

10:30 am, December 4, 2023: As ZPM is having a clear win, Lalduhoma, the Chief Ministerial candidate from Serchhip constituency said the current trend of ZPM”s lead was expected and he is “not surprised”.

 

 

10:16 am, December 4, 2023: ZPM has surpassed the required threshold to form a government and won 26 seats. MNF is halfa way down with 7 seats. BJP is ahead of Congress and has won 3 seats. Congress is still at 1.

8:58 am, December 4, 2023: BJP leader for Mizoram unit, Vanlalhmuaka said the party is confident in being a part of the government that will be soon formed. while talking to PTI, he said his party will win at least 3 seats this year.
