Former minister in Shivraj Singh Chouhan government Mohan Yadav has been chosen as Madhya Pradesh chief minister. In a phenomenal victory in Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, BJP secured 163 out of 230 seats and continue to be in power. Veteran BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan was leading the government for four times, and by choosing Mohan Yadav, party in its surprising move, presented a fresh face.
Mohan Yadav is a legislator representing Ujjain Dakshin constituency in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly since 2013. He also held the position as Higher Education Minister in Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in 2020. The 2023 assembly election marks the 58-year-old politician”s victory from the Ujjain South constituency for the third time. In the election, he won by securing a margin of 12941 votes against Congress candidate Chetan Premnarayan Yadav.
Responding to party”s selection of him as the Chief Minister of the state, Mohan Yadav said: “I am a small worker of the party. I thank all of you, the state leadership and the central leadership. With your love and support, I will try to fulfil my responsibilities,” ANI quotes as Mohan Yadav is saying.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh BJP president VD Sharma said that it was Shivraj Singh Chouhan proposed the name of Mohan Yadav as “the new leader of the Madhya Pradesh legislative party.” Several BJP senior leaders including Narendra Singh Tomar, Kailash Vijayvargiya, and Prahlad Patel supported the proposal, ANI quotes as BJP president saying.
It was on Sunday, BJP has chosen Vishnu Deo Sai as the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. In Rajasthan, the saffron party is yet to pick the Chief Minister.
