The BJP candidate and incumbent MLA Parmod Kumar Vij has won with 81,750 votes with an impressive margin of 35,672 votes. Congress candidate Varinder Kumar Shah secured the runner-up position with 46,078 votes in the Panipat City Assembly constituency.
Since 2014, the BJP has ruled the assembly constituency. In 2014, Rohita Rewri won the seat with an impressive 92,757 votes, defeating Congress candidate Virender Kumar Shah who won 39,036 votes.
In 2019, Parmod Kumar Vij won with 76,863 votes while Congress candidate Sanjay Aggarwal trailed behind with 37,318 votes.
Panipat City is also part of the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency.
Apart from the BJP and the Congress candidates, Ritu Arora (AAP), Saroj Bala Gur (BSP), Bhateri Devi (RMEP), Dilbag Singh Krantikari (Independent), Ca Jagdish Dhamija (Independent), Ramesh Kumar Chaudhary (Independent), Rohita Rewri (Independent), Sawami Agnivesh (Independent), Himanshu Sharma (Independent) are the other candidates in the electoral fray in the Panipat City assembly constituency.
