Telangana Election Date 2023: Polling On 30th November

Telangana Assembly election will be held on 30th November and the date of counting is 3rd of December, said the Election Commission of India on Monday. The term of legislative assembly of Telangana will end on January 16.

Telangana is set to witness a strong contest between Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Congress and the BJP in election. Previously, BRS retained power with large majority as it won 88 seats out of 119 and had a dominant vote share of 47.4 percent. While, Congress increased its seats its 2014 seats tally of 63 seats by 25 constituencies. But they were only able to win 19 seats at the State Assembly. The BJP had to be satisfied with just one seat in the Assembly.

Congress who is trying to take their brightest chance to grab power in Telangana has not yet finished the process of shortlisting candidates within the Congress due to differences of opinion among its screening committee leaders, reports the New Indian Express.

Even after a lengthy nine-hour screening committee meeting in New Delhi on Sunday, it seems the differences have only widened. While, the main rival party, BRS has released its first list of candidates for 115 of the 119 seats in August.

The election in five states is going to be a crucial test for BJP after their defeat in Karnataka elections. Last time, they were only abled to manage a win of one seat. Aiming to grab the power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has joined the campaign and visited the state. The BJP is expected to announce its first list of candidates after October 14.

But as for BRS, fresh trouble seems brewing in the party. Several leaders and ticket aspirants of the elections has already joined the Congress. Amid all the political trouble, Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao has been focusing on the party’s election manifesto and finalizing campaign strategies ahead. And the manifesto is expected to be unveiled at a massive public meeting in Warangal on October 16 by the Chief Minister, reports Time of India.
