One of the big ‘M’s’ in the Malayalam film industry made his directorial debut today with the release of Barroz. After decades of hits—both commercial and critically acclaimed—Mohanlal stepped into the shoes of a director with the fantasy film for family audiences.
As the film hit theatres today, the Christmas release has so far received mixed reviews. Many fans expressed their disappointment with Barroz, which has not lived up to their expectations, considering it was Lalettan’s directorial debut.

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirwad Cinemas in collaboration with Pen Studios, the film is based on the novel by Jijo Punnoose. Barroz features an ensemble cast including Maya, Cesar Lorente Raton, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Tuhin Menon, and Guru Somasundaram.
