Daayra: Kareena Kapoor-Prithviraj Sukumaran Starrer Hits Theatres Today

Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, has hit theatres today, September 18.

The crime thriller, which marks the first on-screen collaboration between Kareena and Prithviraj, is releasing in Hindi and Malayalam.

Inspired by true events, Daayra follows two senior police officers who find themselves on opposite sides of a controversial case.

Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj plays DCP Raman Kumar. Their investigation brings them into conflict over questions of justice, accountability and the boundaries of the law.

Directed and co-written by Meghna Gulzar, the film also features Pragati Mishra, Kshitee Jog, Kanwaljit Singh, Achint Kaur, Anuja Sathe, Seema Azmi, Biswapati Sarkar and Jitendra Joshi in key roles.

The film has been in development for several years, with Gulzar previously explaining that the story was developed after studying multiple cases rather than being based on a single incident.

The filmmaker has said that the film attempts to examine the grey areas surrounding justice rather than presenting issues as simply black and white.

The trailer, released on August 31, introduced Kareena and Prithviraj as two police officers whose differing approaches to the same case form the central conflict.

A promotional video released earlier this week offered a closer look at the investigation and the moral questions at the heart of the story.

Sach Ka Daayra, the film’s only released song, features lyrics by Gulzar, music by Amit Trivedi and vocals by B Praak. The song was released on September 11.

Produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, Daayra has received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification and has a runtime of around two hours and 23 minutes.
