Kerala is gearing up for yet another release. Dileep starrer revenge-drama ‘Thankamani’, directed by Ratheesh Reghunandan and produced by R.B Choudhary and Raafi Mathirra will hit the theaters on Thursday, March 7. The movie is based on a real-life incident that occurred in the Thankamany village of Idukki district in Kerala on October 21, 1986.

The film will revisit the tragic incident that took place in the Thankamany village which began with a dispute over a bus, escalating into a police baton charge and gunfire. The police unleashed violence on the villagers – opened up fire, demolished houses, and sexually assaulted women, allegedly.

The film also portrays Manoj K Jayan and Neetha Pillai in prominent roles. The plot of “Thankamani” was earlier showcased in another film titled ‘Itha Samayamayi’ which was released in 1987.

A petition was filed by a native from the Thankamani village demanding the removal of the rape scenes from the film as the petitioner alleges it to be fictitious.
The film boasts an ensemble cast, with Dileep portraying Abel Joshua Maathan, the central character in this crime thriller. Alongside him, the cast includes Pranitha Subhash, Neeta Pillai, Manoj K Jayan, Siddique, and many others in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, Dileep’s previous outing was with the action drama film ‘Bandra’.
