Bollywood’s iconic Don franchise, directed by Farhan Akhtar, has finally announced a return after twelve years of its last version. The title announced on Wednesday revealed that Ranveer Singh would replace Shah Rukh Khan.
‘A New Era Begins’, said Farhan Akhthar while announcing Don 3 sharing the title video on social media. The background music resembles a faint remastered version of the Don title track ‘Main Hoon Don’.
‘Don’ is one of the highest-grossing Indian film franchises. Ranveer Singh is taking over from Shah Rukh Khan who played the title role in its earlier versions in 2006 and 2011. The Character was originally played by Amitabh Bachchan in 1978.
As India Today reports, Don 3, the third volume of the Hindi-language action thriller is scheduled to release in 2025.
The movie will be written and directed by Farhan Akhtar who is returning to the field after twelve years of the success of Don 2. Backed by Excel Entertainment, Don 3 is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. Sha Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra played the title roles in both Don and Don 2.
It is the first film announced by Ranveer Singh after the success of ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’.
At the same time many of the fans of the Don sequel are feeling uneasy about the replacement of SRK with Ranveer.
‘No hate for Ranveer Singh , he is amazing but Don is SRK’s. I literally felt like it’s some parody and any moment SRK will show up’, commented a fan girl on Instagram. ‘RIP don franchise, even though I ain”t a big fan, but SRK did justice to the role, the voice alone is a put off’, said another.
