Rajkumar Hirani”s Shah Rukh Khan starrer flick, Dunki, hit theatres on Thursday. According to the latest report, the film is expected to earn Rs. 30-35 crore on the first day, with its advance booking crossing Rs. 15.41 crore.
According to a report on Sacnik.com, Dunki had an overall 24.11% Hindi occupancy on Thursday. The morning show witnessed 26.45% occupancy, and the afternoon shows saw 21.77% occupancy, while 5.6 lakh tickets for 15,014 shows have been sold.
In terms of advance bookings, Dunki trailed behind its rival movie Prabha”s Salaar, which earned Rs. 23.5 crore in bookings. Another report claimed that tickets worth Rs. 29.35 crore have already been sold for Salaar, which will hit theatres on Friday.
The significant advantage of Salaar over Dunki is that it has been dubbed into different languages, such as Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, and the original version of Telugu will have its own share of audiences. However, Dunki is available in Hindi only.
According to the Sacnilk report, more than 14 lakh tickets for 10,434 shows have been sold in India for Salaar”s Friday release. The Telugu version alone has seen an advance booking collection of Rs. 23.5 crore so far. Tickets worth Rs. 2.7 crore for Hindi shows, Rs. 1.6 crore for Malayalam, Rs. 1 crore for Tamil, and Rs. 25 lakh for Kannada shows have been booked in advance. There is still one more day to go until the film”s opening.
Meanwhile, film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan flagged concerns over the alleged unfair split of screens between the two big films. He tweeted on Wednesday: “Pan India Star #Prabhas” #Salaar is unlikely to release in PVR INOX due to unfair screen sharing with Shah Rukh Khan”s #Dunki. #BoycottPVRInox. “The makers have withdrawn the release of Salaar from the multiplex chains in the South Indian markets. They won”t be releasing Salaar in any of their properties in the South Market.” “The Hombale team is planning to take stern action against Ajay Bijli and PVR-Inox in the time to come, as the decision has been made by him.”
Dunki is Shah Rukh Khan”s third release this year, after Pathaan in January and Jawan in September. The first show was held at 5.55 am at Mumbai”s iconic single-screen theatre, Gaiety Galaxy, and fans flocked here to welcome Dunki with open arms.
