Maidaan Trailer: WATCH Ajay Devgn In 'Chak De India' Mode In This Sports Biopic

After a lengthy delay, sports biopic fans will be able to watch Ajay Devgn”s Maidaan in June, this year. The filmmakers dropped the trailer of the biopic on Thursday, where Devgn will be seen in the shoes of coach Syed Abdul Rahim who has been portrayed as the mastermind behind Indian football”s modernisation.

The movie has been directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma and delves into the golden era of Indian football spanning between 1952 and 1962. The trailer of the movie begins with Devgn”s voiceover where he says,  “We aren’t the largest country, neither the richest. Half of the world doesn’t know us. Football can create our identity because the whole world plays football. So, India needs to focus on making a world-class team for the next 10 years.”

Devgn then enter a strategic mode as he searches for players who can play football in any position. He is, meanwhile, questioned for his choice by the management for picking up players who come from the slums of India. The determined character played by the lead actor faces failures but promises to never coach again if he loses at the Asian Games.

The movie is described as “the true story of an unknown hero who created history and records for India such that even 60 years later, we are not able to match up to those accomplishments in the most played sport in the world, football” in the official synopsis.

Incidentally, like Shah Rukh Khan”s Chak De India, Maidaan to has a similar mode as it depicts a journey to the triumph.
