Mariah Carey, who lost her mother Patricia, and sister Alison recently, revealed the shocking truth that they both died on the same day over the weekend. The singer has expressed her sorrow in a heartbreaking statement.

The Grammy-winning singer in her statement revealed, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

The singer, who expressed being blessed added that she could spend time with her mother in the week before her death and asked for privacy. Carey did not reveal the cause of the death.

Her mom Patricia, 87, was a former opera singer and vocal coach of Irish-American descent. Reports reveal that the relationship between the duo was not smooth. She also detailed it as a “complicated relationship” and it caused “so much pain and confusion.”

As per reports, Carey revealed that professional jealousy had raised between them, which comes with the territory of success. She called it painful and said, “But when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful.” In her 2022 interview, the singer also said that she had been affected by criticism from her mother when she was growing up. Apart from the complex relationship, Carey credited her mother for exposing her to music.

Looking at the relationship dynamics, she has a complex relationship with her sister Alison as well. In her memoir, the singer wrote of being estranged from her and her brother Morgan, saying that it was “emotionally and physically safer for me to not have any contact.”

The singer’s father, Alfred, died in 2002 of cancer at the age of 72. Carey is regarded as one of the most successful singers globally. She holds the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles by a solo artist at 19 songs, has sold over 220 million records worldwide, and served as a judge on the competition show American Idol.
