
My Love For Mohanlal & Antony Perumbavoor Made Empuraan A Quick Decision, Says Gokulam Gopalan
The much-anticipated Malayalam film L2: Empuraan has captured the attention of movie lovers across the world, and one of its key producers, Gokulam Gopalan, has opened up about his decision to be a part of this exceptional project.
Gopalan revealed that his deep friendship with actor Mohanlal and film producer Antony Perumbavoor, combined with his enduring love for cinema, was the main reason he decided to join the film’s production.
When it came time to choose the film, Gopalan stated that he didn’t base his decision solely on the budget but also on the content and audience appeal.
Empuraan, a monumental Malayalam film had its future uncertain at one point, leaving Mollywood fans across the globe in a state of anxiety.
However, it was Gokulam Gopalan’s intervention, stemming from his lifelong passion for cinema and his close friendship with Mohanlal, that came to the rescue.
Gokulam Gopalan’s active involvement in the industry has been a consistent support to Malayalam cinema in various forms, often helping steer the ship when it needed a steady hand.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, Empuraan is set to release globally on March 27. The film is produced by Gokulam Gopalan, Antony Perumbavoor, and Subhaskaran, under the banners of Gokulam Movies, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Lyca Productions.
Gokulam Gopalan shared his immense joy in being part of the movie, revealing that he was immediately drawn to it due to his deep love for Mohanlal and Antony Perumbavoor, as well as the film’s potential.
He stated that when he saw some portions of the film, he was moved by the quality of work Prithviraj Sukumaran had put into it, acknowledging it as one of the finest Malayalam films.
Before its official release, Empuraan has already made waves in the Indian film industry by setting new records.
The advance ticket bookings for the film started on March 21 at 9 AM, and within hours, over 800,000 tickets had already been sold through BookMyShow.
This milestone set a new record for Indian cinema. The film broke previous booking records with nearly 100,000 tickets sold in just one hour, showcasing its overwhelming demand.

Empuraan, written by Murali Gopy, is also set to be the first Malayalam film to have an IMAX release and the global screening of the film will begin on March 27 at 6 AM IST.
In terms of distribution, Empuraan will be handled by several prominent companies across India. Gokulam Movies will oversee the distribution in Tamil Nadu, while Shree Venkateswara Creations will handle Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
AA Films, led by Anil Thadani, will distribute the film in North India, and Hombale Films, a major Kannada film production and distribution company, will take charge in Karnataka.
The film has already earned approximately ₹35 crore through pre-sales alone, with ₹10 crore coming from Kerala and over ₹20 crore from international markets.
Mohanlal’s Empuraan features a stellar lineup of other actors, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jerome Flynn, Baiju, Sai Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah and others.
