The British boy band, nevertheless, continued to tug on the heartstrings of fans. In honour of Liam Payne’s musical career that touched millions of fans, here are some of the best One Direction songs (in no particular order) to revisit your favourite boy band’s memoriesm.

1. The Story Of My Life

From the album Midnight Memories, perhaps one of the most emotional tracks with an excellent music video with each member’s childhood memories, their times before fame and personal family photos.

2. History

A tribute to friendship and the shared journey of the five members, the song celebrates ten years of their togetherness in becoming the famous phenomenon that it did. This song belongs to their fifth and final album Made In The A.M.

3. Little Things

With simple yet beautiful lyrics and this melodious song was another (deserving) hit. ‘Little Things’ was a gift for the band from singer Ed Sheeran who wrote the song when he was 17.

4. Steal My Girl

From the album Four, the song peaked at #3 on UK Singles and at #13 on Billboard Hot 100. The song was written by Liam and Louis along with their other collaborators. The music video also features iconic actor Danny Devito, sumo wrestlers, a juvenile chimpanzee and more.

5. Fool’s Gold

The song beautifully captures the feeling when false love is better than no love. With the finely arranged harmonies of each singer, the song is an underrated gem. Released on 2014, the song belongs to their album Four.

6. Night Changes

The last video featuring Zayn Malik before he announced his decision to separate from the band, ‘Night Changes’ is their most played song on Spotify. With resounding and emotional lyrics, the song is a beautiful collection of growing up and sharing a life together.

7. Best Song Ever

Released in July 2013 from Midnight Memories album, the song is catchy but the music video is even better. The six-minute video features the band members impersonating music figures from the industry with Zayn Malik’s special appearance as “Veronica.”

8. Drag Me Down

Drag Me Down is one of the three music videos of One Direction with over a billion views. The lead single of Made In The A.M., the song was the band’s first single without Zayn Malik. Liam Payne had announced the release of the track on his Twitter (now X) social media handle in July 2015.

9. Once In A Lifetime

A likeness to Coldplay shines in this track which speaks of reminiscing an old lover that the singer wishes to return to. The third bonus track from Four, ‘Once In A Lifetime’ is another relatively underrated song by the British boyband.
