Selena Gomez Admits Heavy Vaping Permanently Damaged Her Voice
Pop superstar and actress Selena Gomez has shocked fans by revealing that years of heavy nicotine vaping have caused permanent damage to her speaking and singing voice.
The 34-year-old Only Murders in the Building star took to her Instagram Stories over the weekend to address long-standing speculation from fans regarding her noticeably deeper and raspy vocal tone.

The singer went on to announce that she has officially quit vaping, though she admitted that overcoming the nicotine addiction remains an everyday struggle. “I am really excited because I stopped and I just hope I can keep it up. It’s really hard, but I know if you are going through something you can get through it too,” she said.
Addressing critics who have frequently picked apart her changing vocals online, Gomez didn’t hold back.
Laughing off the negativity, she added, “So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable.
I don’t mind. Just don’t listen to it.”

Medical experts note that the aerosols and heated chemicals in e-cigarettes cause severe dryness, chronic inflammation, and direct trauma to the vocal folds. For Gomez, the habit likely exacerbated existing health issues.
The singer has battled the autoimmune disease Lupus since her diagnosis in 2013, and previously shared during a 2025 livestream that the condition frequently causes the inside of her throat to swell, leading to vocal strain.
