Singer-actress Selena Gomez recently opened up about her inability to carry a child due to her ongoing medical issues. In a Vanity Fair cover story published on Monday, the Only Murders In The Building actress discussed her plans to start a family in the next few years.
The most important thing for the 32-year-old is family, but her dreams of motherhood are far beyond what she can achieve now.

“I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” she said. “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
The Who Says hitmaker however hasn’t specified the exact medical issue, however, she has previously spoken in public about being diagnosed with lupus in 2015, a disease where the immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. A year later, Selena was diagnosed with anxiety and depression, which can be linked to both lupus and some medications taken to manage the condition.
In 2017, the record producer also had a kidney transplant linked to her lupus. Later in 2020, Salena was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, after experiencing a psychotic episode during which she heard voices and felt suicidal.
While speaking to Rolling Stone, the singer revealed that she may not be able to have a safe pregnancy due to the medication she takes to treat bipolar.
In the interview, Selena shared that she is thinking of having children and considering surrogacy or adoption.
“It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” she said.
She further added that she is in a better place and finds it a blessing that there are people who are willing to do surrogacy and adoption.

“I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.
It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people,” she said.
Gomez excited to begin her motherhood journey said that the journey will be different for her but that doesn’t matter as at the end of the day, the baby will be hers.
