Shah Rukh Khan’s much awaited Dunki was released today. The movie garnered mixed reviews from cinema lovers. Without questioning, the “Baadshah” was the charm of the movie with his elevated performance. Shah Rukh Khan’s ability to grasp the essence of his character allow him to seamlessly infuse humor into a role which posed challenges due to a storyline transcending borders. It is commonly agreed that Dunki was not one of Rajkumar Hirani”s best.
According to Hindustan Times review, Dunki rides high on emotions with sprinkling humour even though it gets too much to digest sometimes. The review appreciated Rajkumar Hirani for blending up the pertinent issue like illegal immigration with a love story at its core. The movie also have some heart-wrenching moments that might leave a lump in audiences’ heart. Hindustan Times review has also agreed with the notion that Dunki is not one of the best of Rajkumar Hirani. The review said there is nothing organic about the humour added in the movie. The main attraction was Shah Rukh Khan. The ‘King’ never failed to charm the audience, be it in his clean shaven look or the second half look with grown stubbles. Hindustan Times says, Khan looked “endearing and sweet” in Dunki. The review was concluded with a note that Dunki is an absolute family entertainer “that leaves you with a tearful smile”.
India Today too agreed with Shah Rukh Khan being the main charm of the movie by “proving his timeless appeal yet again”. But the review said second half of Dunki is “weak and lengthy”. According to India Today, the climax of the movie was one of the least enjoyables of Rajkumar Hirani as he “stretches scenes and adds unnecessary baggage to an already heavy entourage”. The review read that though Dunki might not be Rajkumar Hirani’s best in comparison with PK or 3 Idiots, Dunki will leave a “warm and fuzzy feeling” when one leaves the theatre.
NDTV said the timing of the movie is a little off and may be movie might have garnered greater response if had released before Pathaan and Jawan. As per NDTV, Dunki lacked the usual depth of a Rajkumar Hirani stories. The screenplay could be with a little more twists and turns so that the predictability might be reduced. According to their review, the greatest plus point of the movie is Shah Rukh Khan and the other beautifying factor of the movie is Rajkumar Hirani”s story. The media outlet said that the subject of the Dunki is great but came a little late. They added that Dunki is a definite family entertainer.
