Renowned playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar recently made headlines after being found unconscious at her Hyderabad residence. The incident also sparked rumours of a suicide attempt; however, Kalpana now came up with the clarification that the incident was not a deliberate suicide attempt but an accidental overdose.

The singer, on clarifying the rumors, posted a video today and has denied rumors of a strained relationship within the family. For the unversed, on March 4, singer Kalpana was found unconscious at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad. The situation came to light when apartment security alerted residents after the singer had not opened her door. The singer was quickly rushed to the nearby hospital.

This incident led to various speculations about her personal life and potential family conflicts. However, denying all the speculations, the singer on her Instagram story posted a video and explained that she has been struggling with insomnia for years due to her hectic schedule.

In the video, the singer explained that she is currently pursuing her PhD and LLB degrees and has been actively working on her music career. Due to her increased stress level, she has been struggling with insomnia for years. Her doctor also had prescribed sleeping pills to manage her insomnia. She also confessed that she accidentally took an extra dose on the day of the incident and clarified that there were no family disputes.

“I am recording this video to give clarity regarding rumors around me and my husband. At this age, I am pursuing my PhD, LLB and other courses. I am also intensively focusing on my music career. Due to higher stress levels, I have been struggling with sleep deprivation for the past few years. When I visited the doctor, they found that I had insomnia and prescribed tablets,” she said.

About the day of the incident, she further added, “On that particular day, I took an extra dosage, which caused a lung infection and led me to an unconscious state.”

She also continued, “The reason why I am alive today and talking to you is because of my husband, who struggled to save me. He was out of the city and took the help of the police to save me. He coordinated with them, the ambulance, and the media at the right time to rescue me and take me to the hospital. I survived.” She also asked the viewers not to believe any rumours.

Addressing the rumours regarding personal issues with family, she mentioned that the best thing to have happened to her is getting Prasath Prabhakar as her partner and a responsible daughter like Daya Prasad.

Kalpana is the daughter of well-known playback singer T.S. Raghavendra. She rose to fame after winning the title in Star Singer Malayalam in 2010. After her victory, she collaborated with several esteemed composers, including Ilaiyaraaja and A.R. Rahman. Growing up in a musical family, she began her singing career at just five years old.

Over her long career, Kalpana has recorded more than 1,500 songs in multiple languages. In addition to her music, she made a brief appearance in the film Punnagai Mannan, starring Kamal Haasan.
