The Ever-Iconic ‘Kalyanaraman’ Returns: Dileep’s Comedy Classic Set For A 4K Re-Release
Adding to Malayalam cinema’s growing wave of 4K re-releases, Dileep’s beloved romantic comedy Kalyanaraman is gearing up to make a comeback on the big screen in a newly remastered format with Dolby Atmos sound.
The 2002 hit, directed by Shafi and written by Benny P. Nayarambalam, remains one of the most cherished feel-good entertainers of the early 2000s — a film that continues to occupy a special place in Malayali pop culture. However, the rerelease date is yet to be announced.

Navya Nair, Kunchacko Boban, Innocent, Lal, Salim Kumar, and Lalu Alex complete the film’s vibrant ensemble, each contributing to its enduring comic flavour.
The movie’s success was driven by its perfect blend of humour, emotion, and nostalgia, anchored by Berny–Ignatius’s memorable soundtrack featuring songs like “Thinkale Poothinkale” and “Raakadal Kadanjedutha”, which remain favourites among fans even today.
Upon its original release during the 2002 Christmas season, Kalyanaraman emerged as a blockbuster and solidified Dileep’s status as a family entertainer. Over the years, the film has enjoyed cult status, with the iconic character Ponjikkara Kesavan (played by Innocent) living on through countless memes and pop references.

The digitally restored version of Kalyanaraman promises to offer a fresh theatrical experience for both long-time admirers and a new generation of viewers who have only seen it on television or streaming platforms. The official release date for the re-release is expected to be announced soon.
Meanwhile, another Malayalam classic is also making its return. Mammootty’s Amaram (1991) — the acclaimed emotional drama directed by Bharathan and written by A. K. Lohithadas — is set for a 4K Dolby Atmos re-release on November 7.
The film, which tells the poignant story of Achootty, a fisherman father with dreams for his daughter, is widely regarded as one of Mammootty’s finest performances. It also earned KPAC Lalitha a National Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Bhargavi.
