The much anticipated film, Thangalaan is all set to hit big screens on August 15. It marks the first collaboration between actor Vikram and director Pa Ranjith.

An action drama film set in the 1900s, Thangalaan is based on a real incident that happened at the Kolar Gold Factory (KGF) in Karnataka under British rule. Vikram plays the role of the ‘Son of Gold’ and the story is centered around a tribal leader’s fight against those conspiring to snatch their land to mine gold.

“Thangalaan is a pure-fiction film based on real-life incidents of the 1800 CE. The period is a challenge to any writer,” Azhagiya Periyavan who wrote dialogues for the film, told the Hindu.

The film is about displaced Tamils on the margins of the society and its major challenge was to capture the language, particularly the slang, he added.

Tamil Prabha has co-written the screenplay.

Parvathy Thiruvothu and Malavika Mohanan  are the female leads in the movie, and it also stars Hollywood actor Daniel Caltagirone. Besides, it features Pasupathy, Hari Krishnan, and Anbudurai plays important roles in the film.  The movie is produced by K E Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green and GV Prakash has scored the music for the film. The cinematography is handled by A Kishor Kumar and editing by Selva RK.

As per the reports today, the pre-booking is moving swiftly and the film has earned Rs 2.50 crore so far. Thangalaan is set to be released in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
