Renowned filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for his cinematic world Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), has dropped an exciting update on his plan for the universe’s expansion. The Leo director, now focusing on superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie, revealed his plans to create a standalone film for the villain Rolex.

Rolex, the brief cameo played by Suriya in Lokesh’s action entertainer Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan, created a significant impact in the LCU franchise. Suriya’s Rolex, the rugged villain of the mafia world, stole the spotlight with his arrogance and vibrant screen presence while promising a possible extension. However, for about two years, there were no updates about the character’s exploration through a standalone film.

Lokesh is currently focusing on Coolie and his next venture, Kaithi 2, with actor Karthi. After two years of a long wait, spilled the beans on his plans for making a standalone film for Rolex with Suriya.

When asked about his plans to reunite with the actor, Lokesh said, “Definitely there’s Rolex… We don’t know when it will happen but we’ll finish our commitments and definitely work together. My next one is Kaithi 2.

While Suriya’s Retro received good reception from the audience with an impressive box office opening, the Rolex announcement turned out to be a treat for Suriya fans. The announcement from the director was dropped just after Suriya expressed his desire to do an out-of-the-box character without considering its impact at the box office.

Lokesh’s upcoming action entertainer Coolie is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14.  The multi-starrer action drama also stars Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra Rao, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, and others in key roles.

The LCU franchise by the director includes films namely Kaithi (2019), Vikram (2022), and Leo (2023).
