There is new trouble for Ennore residents who are already reeling under the oil spill in the area. Ammonia gas leak was reported from an industrial unit in the coastal area on Tuesday late night and following this at least five people have been hospitalised with difficulties.
The reported leak is from an underwater pipeline of Coromandel International Limited, a fertiliser manufacturing facility, near Periyakuppam and the people came out to public places and roads after the leak. Many reported experiencing difficulty in breathing, eyes going cold, burning of and face.

Police and emergency services reached spot and helped the people to move out of the area. An official said about 3000-4000 people were on the roads Tuesday night and the panic situation was diffused after the leak was contained.
DIG, Joint Commissioner Avadi, Vijayakumar wrote on X: “No need to panic. Stabilised. No more gas (ammonia) leaks at Ennore. People reassured and are back home. medical and police teams present.”
At present, people are holding protest at Tiruvallur over the gas leakage incident.
