Sukumara Kurup inspired killings even now continue in several parts of the South India. As the mystery surrounding the existence of Sukumara Kurup carries on, so does “Kurup model” murders. And recent one to add is from Tamil Nadu”s Chennai.
In order to extort insurance money, a youth in Chennai faked his own death and murdered his friend who resembled like him. Suresh Harikrishnan, aged 38, a Chennai native was arrested by the Police in this regard. Suresh has killed Dilli Babu, aged 39, and burnt his body similar to “Kurup model”. Suresh apparently has took insurance in his name with a claim amounting to Rs 1 crore. He committed the fraud to live carefree by receiving money through relatives.
Sukumara Kurup alias Sukumara Pillai claimed to be the India”s longest wanted fugitive, not get caught till date. Many films inspired from his story has came forth in the silver screen, Baby”s NH 47 and Adoor Gopalakrishnan”s Pinneyum are two instances. Srinath Rajendran”s Kurup released in 2021 where Dulquer Salmaan essayed the role of Sukumara Kurup (credited as Sudhakara Kurup) is recent addition in this regard.
