As per the latest development, Canadian police may likely to arrest two men in connection with the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. As per the reports on Globe and Mail, these two suspects are under police surveillance for months and likely to be arrested “in a matter of weeks.” The killing of the Hardeep Singh Nijjar has escalated diplomatic tension between India and Canada.
The Globe and Mail citing anonymous sources reports that suspected killers did not leave Canada. The reports also mentioned that when formal charges are filed, they will disclose details concerning the alleged involvement of the assassins as well as their link to the Indian government.
“Within the community, there”s a sense of closure that might come with the two people being arrested like it”s being said,” the Global News quoted Moninder Singh, spokesperson of BC Gurdwaras Council as he is saying.
The India-Canada diplomatic relations suffered a heavy blow when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that the murder Hardeep Singh Nijjar was an extraterritorial assassination operated by the Indian government. Justin Trudeau also initiated an investigation on the matter with the help of Canadian Intelligence agencies, and the controversy immediately triggered bureaucratic tension between the two countries. India, in response rejected Canadian government’s allegation and said it as “absurd and motivated” and demanded to share evidence to back its assertion. The conflict got worsened when both countries expelled its senior diplomats.
India also suspended visa services in Canada citing ‘operational reasons’, and issued an advisory for its citizens. Following India suspended visa services to Canada “till further notice,” calling “operational reasons” and resumed certain visa services in Canada last month.
