New Delhi: PP Madhavan, a former personal secretary to Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi died late Monday suffering from a cardiac arrest. He was 73. He was a long-time aide of the Gandhi family for over four-and-a-half decades.
As per the reports, after falling at home, Madhavan was immediately rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, where he died of a heart attack. Lok Sabha MPs and AICC general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and K C Venugopal were at the hospital at the time of his passing. He will be cremated at his ancestral house at Thaikkattussery in Kerala’s Thrissur on Tuesday.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi will attend the cremation. Aside from Gandhi, K C Venugopal, Kerala opposition leader VD Satheesan, Senior leaders Ramesh Chennithala and VM Sudheeran attended the public homage at Pattathumana in Cherussery, onmanorama reports.
A former central government employee, Madhavan has been associating with the Gandhi family since 1984 when Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister. After his retirement, he continued his relation with the family and later, assumed charge as an additional private secretary to Sonia Gandhi while she was undertaking the role as Congress party chief and as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) while she was the LoP in the Lok Sabha.

Madhavan is survived by wife Savitri, daughter Deepthi and son Deepak.
