Actor MP Mimi Chakraborty who joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 2019 today announced her resignation as the TMC MP over her alleged hurdles with the local Trinamool Congress leaders. The TMC MP who had first contested in the 2019 general election from the Jadavpur constituency, emerged victorious after defeating high profiles politicians such as the BJP”s Anupam Hazra and the CPM”s Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya.
After offering her resignation to the West Bengal chief minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, she said that she had a dream for her constituency, Jadavpur. “but I faced a lot of hurdles. It is very easy to malign a person when he or she comes from a film background, saying that he or she does not work,” hinting at her issues with the local Trinamool leaders, NDTV reported
However, Mimi Chakraborty”s resignation has not yet been accepted as she claimed that the party chief Mamata Banerjee has assured her that she would sort out the issue.
As per a report, she shows no interest in contesting the Lok Sabha election and said, “politics is not her cup of tea” “Politics is not my cup of tea. You have to promote someone here (in politics) if you are helping someone… I had to often hear that I failed to deliver and I was not available to people. Many had pointed fingers about my attendance in the Parliament. I have conveyed everything to Didi. I don”t understand the nitty-gritty of politics. When I reached out to people, I think it might not have gone down well with a lot of people or maybe some of them,” the actor MP said
She also cited her career as an actor saying that she has equal responsibilities as an actor. “If you join politics, you are criticised whether you work or not,” she said, adding that she had in 2022 talked about her resignation to the party chief Mamata Banerjee and that Ms Banerjee refused to hear it. “I will complete further process after whatever she says,” she added, Times Of India reported.
There were reports earlier that the actor had quit two parliamentary standing committees.
