After 5 Years In Jail Under Trial, Delhi HC Grants Bail To 2 Accused In J&K Terror Conspiracy Case
New Delhi: Sobiya Aziz and Kamran Ashraf Reshi spent around five years in jail as under trials before finally getting the relief on Thursday, September 3. The Delhi High Court granted bail to the two accused in an alleged Jammu and Kashmir terror conspiracy case registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA registered the case against the two and arrested them in 2021 alleging a larger conspiracy involving cadres and affiliates of proscribed terrorist organisations operating in Jammu & Kashmir and allegedly controlled by Pakistan-based handlers. The NIA had also alleged that they were involved in radicalising and recruiting youth, procuring arms and planning terrorist attacks in J&K and other parts of India.

The court headed by a Division Bench comprising Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Ravinder Dudeja granted the bail noting their prolonged incarceration of almost five years and that there is no chance of the UAPA trial ending soon.
The probe team had claimed that the accused were associated with online propaganda groups linked to terrorist organisations and Pakistan-based handlers. The NIA also claimed the accused attended radicalising lectures.
The court expressed discontent that the accused arrested when they were young and made to spent almost five years in custody pending trial.
