Adding onto the ongoing debate, Shahi Tharoor gives the expansion for the word ‘Bharat’ on social media platform X.
“We could of course call ourselves the Alliance for Betterment, Harmony And Responsible Advancement for Tomorrow (BHARAT). Then perhaps the ruling party might stop this fatuous game of changing names,” Tharoor stated.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has earlier said that he hopes that the Centre will not strike of the official name India as it had bought incalculable brand value built up over centuries in his post on X.
After the INDIA vs BHARAT break out, Tharoor has been continuously commenting regarding the ongoing issue and have mentioned in one of his post that he hopes the government will not be so foolish to completely dispense with ‘India’.
“Yes, I use “Bharat” daily in Malayalam and Hindi. And “India” when speaking or writing in English. Would very much like to continue doing both,” was the first remark he had made.
Several other opposition leaders have also come up with arguments against the Centre’s decision to rename ‘India’ to Bharat.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote on X said, “Mr. Modi can continue to distort history and divide India, that is Bharat, that is a Union of States. But we will not be deterred. After all, what is the objective of INDIA (alliance) parties? It is BHARAT – Bring Harmony, Amity, Reconciliation And Trust. Judega BHARAT. Jeetega INDIA!” on Tuesday.
