India's Home Ministry Declares Shahzad Bhatti Network "Terrorist Organisation" Under UAPA

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wendesday delcared the Shahzad Bhatti Network (SBN) a terrorist organisation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The decision was taken to restrict the expanding network of alleged ISI-backed gangster Shahzad Bhatti. The move comes following the arrest of over 200 people across 14 states in connection with 80 FIRs against the network.

The arrests were reportedly made to thwart  the ISI-backed Shahzad Bhatti Network’s alleged plans to carry out “subversive attacks” ahead of Independence Day this year.

On August 12, the officials carried out a multi-state operation using a real-time intelligence-sharing system in coordination with state police forces and detained individuals in connection with the network.
