New Delhi: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Saturday directed petrol pumps of strict action against loose sales and violating safety norms while dispensing fuel.

While assuring that the government has assured that petrol and diesel supplies are adequate across the country, it asked citizens not to store petrol or diesel in loose.

The government said that the refineries operating at full capacity and sufficient crude inventories. The warning comes after a petrol pump in Chennai was found selling petrol to a consumer in a loose container.

“Important advisory for citizens. Petrol and diesel are adequately available at retail outlets across the country. Consumers are advised not to take or store fuel in loose or inappropriate containers, as it poses serious safety risks. Retail outlets have been instructed to strictly follow safety guidelines while dispensing fuel, and any violation will invite strict action,” the ministry said, directing the retailers and dealers to follow safety regulations during fuel dispensing.

Though the ministry reiterated that the government has adequate fuel, fears have been gripping the people, as the commercial gas supply has been halted
