Indian Railways Catering Body To Halt Train Meals Amid Nationwide LPG Shortage: Report

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is considering temporarily stopping providing cooked meals services on trains amid the nationwide LPG shortage. The gas shortage from the supply and logistical disruptions’ due to the conflict in West Asia have significantly impacted the country, multiple media reported.

The government may provide refund to those who pre-booked means in train. The gas shortage has affected IRCTC’s base kitchen services, which operates using LPGs.

Notably, the IRCTC has directed all its licensees to switch to alternative cooking methods at railway food centres, using methods such as microwave ovens and electric induction systems. The railway catering body has also asked them implement contingency plans to maintain uninterrupted food services for passengers.

The passengers, who rely on IRCTC’s catering services during their journeys, might have to find alternative ways to find meals.
