Supply Disruption Hits Indian Cities: Hotels 'Concerned' Over LPG Cylinder Shortages

New Delhi: Hotels and restaurants in several Indian cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai have flagged concerns over the shortage of commercial cooking gas cylinders due to supply disruptions amid the West Asian conflict, NDTV reported.

Though the central government has ordered oil refineries to increase LPG production, the logistic disruptions in the availability of crude oil and the price increase in the international market, appear to have significantly impacted the country’s gas production.

Notably, the government last week increased the LPG cylinder price due to the ongoing conflict, with household cooking gas being raised by Rs 60 and commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 115.

In a statement, the Bangalore Hotels Association said the hotel and restaurant operations across the city are likely to be affected starting March 10, since the gas supply has stopped. “Since the hotel industry is an essential service, common people, students, and medical professionals, who rely on the hotels for daily meals, will be affected,” the association pointed out, adding that its hotel industry will also face difficulties until the gas supply returns to normal.
