"Blasphemy": International Condemnation Over Yati Narsinghanand's Prophet Muhammad Remarks

Yati Narasinghanand, the head priest of Ghaziabad’s Dasna temple, has found himself in another trouble after he delivered an inflammatory speech against Prophet Muhammad, causing allegations of blasphemy and hurting the sentiments of Muslims across the world. An infamous figure who had made controversial remarks earlier too, the demand for the priest’s arrest is mounting against the hate speech targeting Prophet Muhammad. The priest made the remarks while speaking at an event held on September 29 at Hindi Bhavan in Ghaziabad.

Notably, after several protests and calls for action within India against Narasinghanand, the international community has also been reacting to the Indian priest’s comment against the Prophet, respected by billions of Muslims worldwide. In an editorial statement, The Holy Mosque, an X handle of the Mecca and Medina grand masjids, condemned the “blasphemy of the Prophet Muhammad” and called upon international organizations to “stop elements that create communal tensions.” The statement demanded India take steps to prevent the spread of Islamophobia and promote religious harmony.

A purported video of the priest’s speech has been doing the rounds on social media in which Narasinghanand is heard making outrageous remarks against Prophet Muhammad, including the reference to “burning the effigy.”

DOAM, an X handle documenting oppression against Muslims worldwide also noted the incident, stating that “Hindutva Priest: “Burn Effigies of Muhammad,” adding that Indian police have booked Yati Narsinghanand for his blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

 

Omar, an Arab user, condemned the priest remark, noting that the Islamophobia has increased under the current Indian government and stressed the need to stop the trend.

 

Members from the Muslim community have protested against the blasphemy remark at different sites across the country, and several religious and political organizations have also expressed their outrage over the priest’s comment while calling for immediate actions.

Notably, there were several cases against Narsinghanand, and he was held for derogatory remark in 2022. Though an FIR was registered against Narsinghanand Saraswati in connection with the  Prophet-remark case, there have been no arrests so far, according to reports.
