BJP Leaders' Reactions To Rahul Gandhi's OBC Remark On Prime Minister Modi

Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s recent statement that Prime Minister Modi was not born in the OBC category, many BJP leaders hit out at the Congress leader, and some called it a “blatant lie”.

Rahul Gandhi addressing his Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra today made a disputed remark on the Prime Minister Modi, noting that the Prime Minister was not born in the OBC category. The Prime Minister Modi was born Teli caste in Gujarat, which was included in the OBC list during the BJP government”s tenure in Gujarat in 2000. Therefore, Prime Minister Modi is not an OBC by birth, the Congress leader claimed.

However, the statement has triggered strong reactions from the BJP leaders, with many coming out slamming the Congress leader. The BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya termed the Congress leader’s remark as a “blatant lie.”

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the BJP IT cell head said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi”s caste was notified as an OBC on October 27, 1999, two years before he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Amit Malviya further accused the entire Nehru-Gandhi family saying they are all were against OBCs.

Talking to the news agency ANI, former Gujarat deputy chief minister and BJP MP Narhari Amin asked Rahul Gandhi to apologise to the OBC people in Gujarat. ” 25th July 1994, when Gujarat had Congress govt, at that point they included Modh and Ganji community into OBC community, that time PM Modi was neither PM nor CM. Rahul Gandhi is trying to fool people. He should apologise to the entire OBC people in Gujarat,” he said.

Another BJP MLA Purnesh Modi attacked the Congress leader saying that the remark made by Rahul Gandhi was misleading, accusing the Congress party of engaging in vote bank and appeasement politics. “It is a lie that the “Teli” community was included in the OBC category in 2000. They were included in the OBC category in 1994 during the Congress rule. When PM Modi was the CM of Gujarat, he had nothing to do with including the “Teli” community in OBC…” he said.

Gujarat BJP OBC Morcha President Mayank Nayak reacted to the Congress leader’s remark advising him to first look into the history of India. people of OBC won”t tolerate the attempt to insult them…He has tried to provoke and insult OBC people and it is highly condemnable,” he added.

However, the Congress leader, reacting to the BJP”s claims, trying to convince the Prime Minister”s OBC root said that the prime minister is not by birth but a “paper OBC”. “He was not an OBC until 5 decades after his birth. Thanks to the BJP government for confirming this truth of mine,” he wrote, sharing the news titled BJP shares “truth” about PM modi”s caste, refutes Rahul Gandhi”s claim.
