Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had sent BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s complaint, accusing the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and ex-investment banker Mahua Moitra that she took bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in the parliament, to the Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha. The allegations by the Godda MP surfaced on Sunday, and he used research done by Advocate Jai Anant Dehadari to substantiate his arguments.

The controversy intensified as Ms Moitra started reacting to the claims by powerfully slamming the BJP, Mr Dubey, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She openly criticised the PM’s highly debated illegal connections and associations with business conglomerate Gautam Adani. When the BJP leaders asserted the allegation as a “severe blow to the dignity of Parliament”, Ms Moitra rebounded that the charges are mere a “fake degree MP and jilted ex’s lies”.

“Falling back on Fake Degree MP & a jilted ex’s lies?” wrote the TMC MP on X (formerly Twitter).

The jilted ex, she mentions, is reportedly the estranged partner of Ms Moitra – Advocate Jai Anant Dehadari. As PTI reports, she had filed multiple police complaints against Mr Dehadari in the last six months for alleged criminal trespass, theft, vulgar messages, and abuse. They were initially close friends but eventually turned out to be enemies. In a legal notice, Ms Moitra alleged Ms Dehadari trespassed on her official residence and stole personal possessions, including her dog, the Hindustan Times reported.

In Mr Dubey’s letter to the Lok Sabha speaker, he proclaimed that “irrefutable evidences of bribes” exchanged between Ms Moitra and Mr Hiranandani were traced and explained that Ms Moitra recently asked around 50 questions in the parliament, out of 61, seeking information to protect the business interests of Darshan Hiranandani and his company. Mr Dubey added that she also asked questions focusing on the Adani Group, an opponent of Mr Hiranandani.

In return, she questioned the allegations against the BJP and accused the Adani group, for which the business group later released an official statement against Ms Moitra. “Mr A – this lame statement your best efforts? Falling back on Fake Degree MP & a jilted ex’s lies? I won’t rest till @dir_ed, @CBItweets investigate & freeze ₹13000 cr coal scam you have stolen from Indians”, she said on X, addressing the Adani business group.

Countering Mr Dubey”s request to the union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnav for an investigation into Ms Moitra”s login credentials for the House, she wrote the minister to release details of the location and login credentials of all MP”s with CDR”s.
