Member of Parliament from the ruling BJP, Nishikant Dubey, accused All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and ex-investment banker Mahua Moitra that she took bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in the parliament. Mr Dubey wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla demanding to constitute an inquiry committee against Ms Moitra and requested her immediate suspension from the House.

Mr Dubey, who often quarrels with the TMC MP, cited a letter from the advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai and claimed that there was irrefutable evidence of bribes exchanged between the alleged two in return of asking questions in Parliament. He also put reference of the ten members of the Lok Sabha who were disqualified in 2005 for accepting money for raising questions.

In return to the allegations, Ms Moitra slammed the ruling party and welcomed a CBI investigation on the matter only after finishing the probe on “Adani’s offshore money trail, over-invoicing, benami account”. “Am using all my ill-gotten cash & gifts to buy a college/ university in which Degree Dubey can finally buy a real degree”, she wrote on X.

Ms Moitra added that there are multiple controversies pending around the “fake degreewalas” and other prominent BJP leaders. “Welcome any motions against me right after Speaker finishes dealing with those”, she said.

The Godda MP Nishikant Dubey made his allegations referring a research work done by Advocate Jai Anant Dehadari, and explained that Ms Moitra recently asked around 50 questions in the parliament, out of 61, seeking information to protect the business interests of Darshan Hiranandani and his company. Mr Dubbey added that she also asked questions focusing the Adani Group, an opponent to Mr Hiranandani.

The Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat responded the controversy as they are mere BJP gimmicks to defame the opposition parties. Speaking to the news agency ANI, he said that BJP is misusing the power of majority. “In a democracy, the opposition has its own stance & importance…Who is Nishikant Dubey? If any investigating agency finds any facts, the institute will investigate it automatically”, he added.
