Dehradun, Uttarakhand: Six youngsters, including three women and three men, died, and one was critically injured during a tragic car accident in Dehradun on Monday night. The incident occurred after a speeding multi-utility vehicle collided with a container truck near ONGC Chowk around 1:30 am.

Guneet Singh, 19, Kamakshi Singhal, 20, Navya Goyal, 23, Rishabh Jain, 24, and Atul Agrawal, 24—all residents of Dehradun—and Kunal Kukreja, 23, from Himachal’s Chamba, died on the spot. The injured driver, Siddesh Agarwal, 25, also from Dehradun, is battling for life in the hospital.

The police officers investigating after checking the CCTV footage and taking a statement of a passerby suggested that the MUV was at a speed of over 100 km/h.

Giving details of the chilling incident, the police officer said that the roof of the MUV was completely ripped off from the vehicle, decapitating two of the passengers. According to the police report, the youngsters were returning from a party hosted by Siddhesh. The truck driver, immediately after the incident, fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle. However, the police have said that he seems to be at no fault.

From the initial investigation, it was found that the new MUV car had no number plates and was travelling towards Garhi Cantt from Ballupur Chowk. When a luxury car overtook them at high speed, the MUV driver accelerated to catch up with the car. A container truck was at that time crossing the intersection at a normal pace. MUV misjudged the timing, though he could also cross the intersection before the truck, which was heading towards Kaulagarh from Kishangarh Chowk. Unfortunately, the MUV collided with the truck’s left side from behind.

The MUV, moving at high speed, struck the truck’s left rear side—a known blind spot on large vehicles. The car was left mangled and twisted beyond recognition.

A nearby restaurant owner recalls narrowly avoiding a collision with the MUV around 1 am near Pacific Mall. “The car was speeding on the wrong side toward us. I had to swerve quickly,” he recounted.

Alarmed by the recklessness, he alerted the police at a nearby checkpoint but observed no action was taken. As per the TOI report, he had alerted the incident through the emergency helpline and even had emailed the SSP and CM’s office but was later devastated to know that the same vehicle had been involved in the fatal accident.

Meanwhile, reports claim that a video has surfaced showing all seven people in the car before taking out the night drive that ended in tragedy.

The party was to celebrate Atul Agarwal, son of businessman Sunil Agrawal, buying the new Innova car. The video reportedly showed the group partying and dancing. In the video, one girl is seen pouring a drink for another seated on a sofa. The video is believed to have been recorded shortly before the incident took place.

Currently, since the young car owner who was driving the car has lost his life, the police are consulting with legal experts to explore possible actions in the case.
