A dilapidated building in Gujarat’s Surat collapsed on Saturday, leaving at least seven dead. Bodies of the deceased were pulled out of the debris of the collapsed building. The five-story building housed families as tenants. Five families were inside the building when it collapsed, and around 10 to 15 people are believed to have been trapped inside. At least fifteen people have suffered injuries in the incident, according to a report by NDTV.
The police and fire department officials arrived at the spot and are actively clearing the debris, looking for the trapped individuals.

The building in Sachin Pali village, which was built in 2017, was reportedly in a dilapidated condition and collapsed after heavy rainfall over the last few days.
Surat’s District Collector, Dr Saurabh Parghi, said that a woman was rescued from the collapsed building, and four or five more could be trapped inside. “Teams of the NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into action. We are hopeful that we will be able to rescue the rest within a few hours,” the media house quoted the Collector saying.
Surat’s Police Commissioner, Anupam Singh Gehlot, also expressed confidence that those trapped under the wreckage will be rescued by tonight. Gehlot said that they could hear the voices from inside the rubble and could be rescued within an hour or two.
An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the collapse of the building.
In Delhi’s Harsh Vihar area, a boy was killed after a portion of the terrace of an old building collapsed last week. The six-year-old boy was playing on the terrace when the tragic incident happened. Though the boy was rushed to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries, he was declared dead by the doctors.
