Vadodara, Gujarat: Sparking political flashpoint, Gujarat government recently cleared a proposal to allot a crores worth land to former Trinamool Congress MP and ex-cricketer Yusuf Pathan. Notably, the proposal to gift the disputed municipal plot worth Rs 20.53 crore in Vadodara to the politician who aligned with NDA after TMC exit, has drawn political scrutiny.

The clearance to the disputed property has sparked outrage among a section of the public, who believe that the decision is a gift to Pathan for joining the BJP.

The plot was a point of prolonged  legal wrangling and an eviction notice over alleged encroachment, following the rejection of the land request by the Gujarat government in 2014. Now, the proposed land deal would gift him 500 square metres of land and transfer another 478 square metres at a 45% discount, reports The New Indian Express.

The proposal is scheduled to come before the BJP-ruled Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee on October 23. The government clearance follows after Pathan who won the 2024 general election from Baharampur in West Bengal on TMC ticket, joined the rebel faction of TMC MPs that merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) and moved into the NDA camp in June 2026.
