Houses collapsed in Anni town of Kullu district in Himanchal Pradesh due to non-stop rain. Rain has caused landslides and flash floods too. It is feared that several people could be under the debris. Red alert have been issued by the IMD.

On this, SP Saakshi Verma Kartikeyan told the PTI that, “Seven buildings including three commercial buildings and four residential buildings collapsed but there were no casualties as people were already evacuated.”

The rainfall has damaged the Kullu-Mandi road, stranding many vehicles, on this the SP added, “Due to the rainfall both the roads connecting Kullu district to Mandi have been damaged. The alternative route via Pandoh is also damaged &. PWD is trying to clear the road…”, the PTI, shared through its X handle.


More on this, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert, predicting very heavy rainfall in the state for the next two days, and orange alert for 24 August, indicating at a heavy rainfall of 115.6 to 204.4mm. Red and Orange alert is issued when the weather conditions are expected to turn extremely bad which could affect rail, road, power and other infrastructures. Further the Himachal Traffic Police alerted that the Kennedy-Annadale road has been blocked due to a fallen tree and that the Theog-Hatkoti, NH 705 road is also blocked due to a landslide nearby Chalnair.

The Himachal Pradesh government has declared the state “natural calamity affected area” with 113 landslides in this monsoon, the total monetary loss in Himachal due to heavy rains is ₹10,000 crore, total damaged houses stands at 2,022 and partially damaged houses at 9,615. A number of 224 people lost their lives in this, while 117 people died in road accidents so far as per the government bulletin, reported the mint.
