Railway Overbridge Collapses Near A Gujarat Village, Major Tragedy Averted

Vadodara, Gujarat: A railway overbridge has collapsed at Level Crossing No. 250 between Vadodara and Adas Road stationsn near Adas village in Anand district collapsed on Saturday, May 30. According to Vadodara Railway Division, the collapse was a minor incident with all safety protocols followed, and train operations remained unaffected.

No injuries were reported after the under-construction structure between two pillars suddenly collapsed. The incident, however, caused panic in the area, as it inflicted substantial damage to the under-construction structure, Times of India reported.

As no vehicles or pedestrians passing beneath the bridge at the time, a major tragedy was avoided. Officials from the concerned agencies and technical experts reached the site and launched an inquiry into the cause of the collapse.

 

Calling it a ‘minor incident’, Vadodara Railway Division public relations officer Anubhav Saxena said the collapse involved approach girders during construction activities and maintained that all prescribed safety measures were being followed at the site.

With the latest bridge collapse, several people on X questioned the collapse of several under-construction bridges in the country.  Many users attributed the reasons to poor quality materials, corruption and lack of proper supervision, noting that several contractors use substandard steel and cement to cut costs, leading to these tragic accidents.
