Due to continuous rainfall in the district of Tamil Nadu, the educational institutes in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Villupuram districts will remain closed on November 14. The Union territory Puducherry has also announced holiday for schools and colleges today.

As per the Meteorological department’s forecast, a low-pressure area is likely to be formed in the south east Bay of Bengal triggered by an upper air cyclonic circulation.

The announcement was made due to the forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore districts, and Puducherry. The Indian Meteorological department has issued an orange alert on Monday. In its weather prediction report, the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to experience rainfall between 115.6 to 204.4 mm.

From the start of November 2023, Tamil Nadu has been receiving rainfall widely. Last week, the state received moderate to heavy rainfall which has resulted in waterlogging and schools being shut down. Waterlogging was reported in Erode because of the continuous heavy rainfall. The Meteorological department has also warned of squally weather with wind speeds reaching up to 55 kmph, heightening concerns about safety.

Earlier, State Minister of Housing and Urban Development, S Muthuswamy, along with other district officials, inspected and took stock of the situation in low-lying area. He has also assured that action would be taken to build strong banks on the ponds.
