India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Kerala till Thursday and weather department has issued orange and yellow alert in the two states. The Northeast Monsoon has been intensified in Tamil Nadu which led to the heavy and very heavy rainfall in the southern district of the state.
On Sunday, seven districts including Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kottayam and Alappuzha in Kerala has been issued yellow alert. Central Meteorological Department, isolated locations in Kerala is likely to receive heavy rainfall until November 10.
According to natural Disaster Monitoring Centre of Karnataka’s weather report, the state is expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall until November 9. The heavy rainfall in Bengaluru has caused disruption to daily life prompting residents to social media to voice their concerns regarding traffic congestions and water logging.
The northeast monsoon, which is often referred to as winter monsoon is said to be the counterpart of southwest monsoon. It has caused heavy rainfall in various southern states of India. The northeast monsoon usually occur between October and December and mainly affects the southeastern part of peninsular India.
Observing the current weather pattern, IMD has also suggested the possibilities of scattered light rainfall or snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from November 7-10. It is said that Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh will also experience similar weather conditions.
There is a possibility of isolated rainfall in West Rajasthan on November 8 and 9. Punjab is also likely to receive light rainfall on November 9, as reported by mint. Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall in the upcoming week. Konkan, Goa as well as Maharashtra are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall for the next five days.
