Following back-to-back shelling from both sides of the border, India and Pakistan agreed to a “full and immediate ceasefire.” US President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire between the nuclear-armed neighbouring countries. Both India and Pakistan have confirmed the news on Saturday evening. However, reports emerged in the night on the same day that Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement and started attacking India in the Line of Control and also via drones in many border areas.
Tensions escalated between the countries following the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir on April 22 which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, including a Nepalese citizen. In response, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, precise strikes carried out on nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, targeting the roots of cross-border terror planning.
Since then, Pakistan has launched waves of drone and missile attacks targeting Indian military and civilian infrastructure across 26 locations, including Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat.
Amid the escalating conflict, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved the immediate disbursement of a $1 billion bailout to Pakistan, raising total assistance under the programme to $2.1 billion. India has protested the move, expressing concern that the funds could be misused.
