A woman passenger who was travelling on an IndiGO flight found a screw in the sandwich that was served on her recent journey.

A passenger named Jyoti Rautela discovered a screw inside the spinach and corn cheese sandwich that she got on a Bengaluru-Chennai flight on February 1.

She did not eat the sandwich during the journey. When she opened the packet while waiting for a taxi ride, after reaching the pre-booked hotel with her team in Chennai she found the screw in the food. Her two colleagues also supported her claim.

She shared her experience on Reddit and wrote: “While traveling indigo recently on 01/02/24 from BNG to Chennai I got a screw in my sandwich when I urged for an apology from the airline end they came back with a response that wince consumed it post flight it couldn”t be found legible!!!! #indigo how should I approach this so Indigo can at least respond.””

In response, IndiGO issued an official statement: “We are aware of the image circulating on social media with reference to a customer sharing their experience on flight 6E-904 operating between Bengaluru – Chennai on February 01, 2024. The issue was not reported by the passenger during the journey. Our in-flight meals are sourced from reputable and highly regarded caterers to maintain the highest standards of quality and hygiene.”

However, the airline added: “We regret the inconvenience caused to the passenger and remain committed to providing the best possible in-flight experience and ensuring compliance with all food and hygiene standards.””

Jyoti Rautela told Times of India that she has received a call from the airline on February 2, and asked her to describe the air hostess who had served her the sandwich. “After two weeks, their social media team got back to me and said that since I hadn’t eaten the sandwich on the plan and found the bolt there, my claim was not legible (sic) and couldn’t be established by them,” TOI quotes as she is saying.

“This is irresponsible on the part of the team,” she added.
