
JMM founder And Former Jharkhand CM, Shibu Soren Dies At 81
New Delhi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder Shibu Soren died on Monday. He was 81. Soren had been receiving treatment for over a month at a private hospital in Delhi for kidney-related problems.
His son and present Chief Minister Hemant Soren shared the news of his father’s death on social media. “Respected Guru Dishom has left us all. Today, I have become empty,” Hemant Soren posted on X.

Considered as the party’s founding father, Shibu Soren helmed the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for the past 38 years. The veteran leader was the key face of the statehood movement, which led to the formation of Jharkhand in 2000.
In his political career spanning over four decades, Soren served in the Lok Sabha eight times and held the position as a Rajya Sabha MP for two terms, the second of which was still active.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the death of JMM patriarch and recollected the works Soren had done for the empowernment of tribal communities and the poor.

In an X post, PM Modi wrote: Shri Shibu Soren Ji was a grassroots leader who rose through the ranks of public life with unwavering dedication to the people. He was particularly passionate about empowering tribal communities, the poor and downtrodden. Pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Spoke to Jharkhand CM Shri Hemant Soren Ji and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.”
