Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday granted interim bail for former Bihar Chief Minister and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s wife Rabri Devi Yadav and her two daughters – Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav. The interim bail granted by the Court lasts until February 28.

The trio, accused of the land-for-jobs scam in the railways, appeared before the court following the summon after taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). A video shared by the news agency ANI showed Rabri Devi and her daughter Misa Bharti at the Delhi Court.

The interim bail was granted after the ED said that it required time to file arguments on the accused’s bail application, according to the Court. The Court during the proceedings further asked the ED why it required the trio’s arrest when it had not arrested them during its investigation.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had on January 30 informed the court that it would file a supplementary charge sheet within a month in the alleged land-for-jobs case. However, the CBI told the court it would submit the report by the end of February.

The ED had initiated the investigation based on the FIR registered by CBI alleging that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav during his tenure as the railway minister indulged in corruption in the appointment of of Group D substitutes in Indian Railways during the period 2004-2009.

As per the charges, the candidates were asked to give land as a bribe in exchange for jobs in the Railway. The ED accused the family members of the then Railway minister of receiving land parcels from the family of the candidates.
