Nagpur, Maharashtra: The cabinet expansion of the new Maharashtra government took place on Sunday, December 15. A total of 33 cabinet ministers and 6 ministers of state sworn in at a grand event in Nagpur. Among the inducted cabinet ministers, 16 were from the BJP, 9 from the Shiv Sena, and 8 from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). In the ministers of state category, three were from the BJP, two from the Shiv Sena, and one from the NCP.

With the oath-taking ceremony, the power sharing arrangements between Mahayuti alliance members will be finalised soon. The Home Portfolio, which was a major point of discord between the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena, will be retained by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Fadnavis sworn in as Chief Minister on December 5, along with former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and NCP leader Ajit Pawar as deputy chief ministers.

In a press conference, after the cabinet expansion, Fadnavis said that the portfolios of newly joined ministers will be allotted within two days. “We will complete the portfolio distribution in the next two days,” he said. The week-long winter session of the Maharashtra state legislature will begin on Monday.
